Ready or not, here it comes! The 2016 season of NFL football is just about to be underway and there are some fantastic daily fantasy tournaments going on this weekend! If you haven’t already joined DraftKings then I recommend clicking the banner located on the right hand side and setting up an account. They are offering a $1MM first place prize on a $3 buyin for Sunday games and at that payout it’s worth putting at least one or two lineups in. Anyways, let’s get into the picks for the Week 1 season on DraftKings!
Quarterback – There are several quarterbacks I have my eye on this weekend. Derek Carr is one of my top QB picks in week 1 because he’s playing an extremely weak Saints secondary. He’s got strong weapons for throwing to this weekend and I don’t personally think the Saints can seal up that leaky secondary which was one of the worst ever last season. Along with Carr I also think Andrew Luck has the potential to put up allot of points versus Detroit. They have the highest team total on the board and I could see them go heavy on the passing attack this weekend. Luck may also be less owned than Carr. Outside of these two, Dak Prescott could be an interesting option for those looking to spend less. Lots of people will be playing him and with a low price tag he does make a solid cash game investment. I don’t think he’ll have a monster game in week 1, but his salary does make it worth playing him as a punt option.
Runningbacks – My most heavily played RB in daily fantasy tournaments this weekend will probably be Mark Ingram. The Raiders struggle when it comes to covering RBs out of the backfield and Ingram should also get most of the Saints goal line carries. I also believe Spencer Ware will be pretty popular this weekend since Jamaal Charles is out. At the DraftKings price they are getting it makes him a sneaky RB2 play in Week 1, although I also think there are some other RBs out there which could work out in this position as well. Some of the other running backs I like this weekend include DeMarco Murray, Charles Sims and Matt Forte.
Wide Receivers – There is good potential for wide receivers in Week 1. Expect to pay up for many of the best options out there, but with the match-ups in play these guys will definitely be worth it! Both Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree could have huge games against the Saints weak secondary. We may also see Julio Jones get off to a nice season opener since DraftKings runs on a PPR scale. Other wide receivers I like include A.J. Green, DeAndre Hopkins, Odell Beckham Jr. and Mike Evans. If you are wanting to go cheap with someone then consider Marvin Jones who could definitely see a majority of the deep balls thrown by quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Tight End – The tight end depth chart goes pretty deep on Sunday. Delanie Walker and Travis Kelce are both hot options but will likely be played by lots of people this week. Those looking for some other options may want to also consider Rob Gronkowski or even Dwayne Allen if the Colts offensive line is forced to throw a bunch of short passes!
Flex – The flex spot is one place I had to cut down spending on my personal lineups this week. However, I feel James White makes a very intriguing play here. With Dion Lewis out, White should get most of the RB passing down looks. Although Tom Brady won’t be playing, with Garoppolo under center it’s very likely that there are a few more checkdowns and time spent in the fourth quarter playing catch-up. Ryan Mathews makes another interesting choice here since he will be up against a Browns defense that has been absolutely horrible against the run both in pre-season and last year.
Defense – There will be a wide selection of affordable NFL defense options this week. While DraftKings has the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams defenses priced fairly high this week, I actually think there is more value elsewhere. The Seattle Seahawks DST doesn’t have a bad match-up, but at $3.9K I still think some money can be saved here. My personal pick is the Houston Texans playing an extremely bad Chicago Bears team. Their priced at just $3.2K and I definitely see potential for at least 1 pick-6 in the afternoon! I also like the Kansas City Chiefs match-up on Sunday as well!
