There will be a bunch of games happening in major league baseball on Friday, July 3. We’ve compiled some analysis with a pretty sweet lineup below. However, all of this information is targeted for the Late slate of games. This would include only the 5 match ups between SF/ARI, PIT/OAK, BAL/SEA, COL/LAD, NYY/SD. Have a look at our player selection below and consider using this lineup for one of your games. Be sure and double check for inactive players when the final rosters are released later this afternoon!
Pitcher – The fact DraftKings will require that everyone play two pitchers adds a twist to the game. I would personally stay away from pitchers in the BAL/SEA & COL/LAD games, but other than that I see good opportunity in Sonny Gray playing a Pirates team that is under the 500 mark. Obviously Johnny Cueto is the best pitcher in the slate of games, but also the most expensive. Colin Rea is also a possible sleeper pick in my opinion!
Catcher – There will be a limited selection of quality catchers in the late games today. Buster Posey probably gets my top pick, but he’s expensive at $5K. He’ll be playing an away game against a fairly poor pitcher, so I think he’s probably the best option to go with. Those looking for someone cheaper may want to consider Matt Wieters for BAL.
First Base – The first base position offers some decent players with good prices tonight. One that immediately stands out to me would be Chris Davis for Baltimore, but I honestly think he’s a little over priced at $4K. My personal pick would probably go to Adrian Gonzalez for $3.2K. But, there is also a slightly more expensive option in Adam Lind who is a left handed hitter and will be facing a right handed pitcher at home. He’s high in the batting order but still gets 3-4 at-bats per game.
Second Base – My picks for second base are slightly limited. The player who I think is setup to have the best evening would probably be Robinson Cano. He’s got home field advantage and is sitting nicely at #3 in the batting order. Unfortuanitely, he’s also got a $4.3K salary tied to him which may be a little high for some. You could also consider Jed Lowrie as a more affordable option at $3.9K. He’s put up 10+pts in 3 of his last 4 games.
Third Base – My third base selections would likely be one of three different players. Manny Machado is the most expensive at $4.8K, but also has the best odds (in my opinion) of having a big night. Mainly because he bats extremely well in home games that are at night and against left handed pitchers. On the other side you also have Kyle Seager who is much more affordable at $3.8K and batting well over .300 in home games against right handed pitchers. Finally, Justin Turner for the Dodgers is another third base player you could put in if needed.
Short Stop – A couple of good options stand out in the short stop position today! Manny Machado has been playing really well lately and scored 15+pts in 3 of his last 4 games. He’s also batting over .350 in away games at night, against lefty pitchers. He’s pricey at $4.8K on DraftKings, but is setup with all the factors needed for a good strong outing! You may also want to consider Corey Seager as a cheaper option at $4.6K.
Outfield – Although there might be 5 late games on the slate today, the pick in good outfield choices is a little limited. Nelson Cruz for Seattle could have a solid game as he’s put up over 20pts in 3 of his last 4 games. He’s also batting over .350 for the past 2 seasons in home games at night. For $4.1K on his salary, Nelson makes a decent pick. Also, be sure to keep an eye on the status of Khris Davis for the Athletics. He’s been on fire lately and is facing a poor left handed pitcher with home field advantage. The downside is he’s a little pricey at $4.7K on DraftKings. Two other decent options at a cheaper price would be Seth Smith and Jake Smolinski.
